Reason's Darkness

Reason is a darkness for most men. If we do not have the light of right doctrine, we cannot reason correctly—not about our lives, nor about the affairs of the world. However, reason alone has become the authority over society. At least now, I think it’s just a front. If we are living the fruits of reason’s long reign, the fruits are questionable and contradictory to the branch which bore them.

Politics seems more about emotions than truth. And the media is controlled to push agendas. Music pushes witchcraft, and people are looking for spirituality in New Age stuff. Recently, Massachusetts passed a law removing the previous statutory restrictions on abortions after 24 weeks, leaving the decision to a physician's professional judgment. Of course, to some, these might seem like an extension of reason’s freedom.

With the proclaimed freedom of reason, it seems that reason in the individual has been bounded. People are starving for the truth. And nowadays, it seems like the distance between conspiracy and truth is closing in. COVID and the Epstein files have been a breeding ground for conspiracy theorists.

But the main purpose of this blog was not to be a commentator on politics, but rather to comment on the fact that reason alone is darkness for most people. This might come as a shock to some, but the fact may be that we are incapable of thinking for ourselves without the gift of divine revelation. To unbelievers, I have to say that although we live in an age of “reason,” talk of spirituality has not gone away.

With our reason alone, we can come to the conclusion that we are better off with carrots as legs.

Reason has thrown the divine down from its ordering heights. We are left looking for the very thing that we dethroned. Hence, Nietzsche was right in saying, “God is dead,” and we have killed him. What’s ironic is that the powerful, the very people who push secular agendas, have not abandoned ancient symbols. In fact, the elite are some of the world’s most superstitious people.

Religions and cultures around the world have yearned for transcendence. The modern age is no different. However, now we have reason as our untrustworthy guide.
